It seems as if almost on an everyday basis that we see on the news where a helpless older person is attacked, robbed, or mugged. Sometimes possessions are taken, sometimes injuries occur, but almost every single time these elderly folks are scared silly for really no reason at all. It is also scary for their loved ones to think of them being treated in such a cruel way simply because they are viewed as unable to defend themselves because of their age. Do people get a kick out of scaring them? Do they really want to hurt them or are they just having fun? We will really never know the answers to these questions, so what can we do to calm the terrible fears of something like this happening to someone in our own family or one of our loved ones? There are several products that we have available to lessen the awful thoughts going through our heads. The simplest product on the market these days are mace sprays. Now of course this doesn't ward off predators initially but it is a great substance to have on hand for when such terrible situations occur. Pepper spray is a small container that will fit into virtually any pocket or purse . It contains a chemical substance that stings they eyes and burns the skin, warding off anyone that is trying to attack. Don't worry though, it is not deadly. All of the side effects are reversible, so there is no additional fear of permanently injuring anyone if the pepper spray is used. If carried on a regular basis it serves as a not so harmful weapon that could end up saving a life. Another product that is available is a stun gun. Again don't worry it is definitely not as dangerous as it sounds. A stun gun is a simple weapon that is also small enough to fit into a pocket or a purse (and it is also legal). It puts out a small shock that will temporarily disable an attacker. Again, the shock is not lethal. It is just enough to let them know that you mean business and that they can't mess with or take advantage of you. Simply put, carrying either pepper spray or a stun gun with you at all times could potentially prevent dangerous situations from happening and possibly even save a life. At the very least it will help the older generation fee much more safe and secure.
