Multichannel SACD For Your Listening Pleasure

Super Audio Compact Disc or SACD for short is among the latest innovation there is in the music arena. It is a high resolution system based on the recent mode of digital recording equipment known as Direct Stream Digital or DSD. SACD also comes in 4.7 gigabyte disc to provide consumers a real audio experience which feels like being in a recording studio or at a front row seat at some concert.

The gigantic increase of possible information on audio signal available on SACD meant that enhancements in disc storage were required as well. The combination of such requirement with the necessity to guarantee compatibility with entrenched CD formats led to the three disc variations of SACD compliant developments. To ensure maximum listening pleasure and sound quality, and at the same time, offers reverse compatibility with that of subsisting compact disc players, three Super Audio Compact Disc types were created. These are hybrid, single layer, and dual layer.

The single layer is consist of single HD or High Density 4.7 gigabyte information while the dual layer has two, providing an extended playback up to 8.5 gigabytes capacity. Meanwhile, the hybrid disc holds both standard CD player and HD layer. The HD layer offers the luxury of SACD better quality playback; and on the other hand, the standard density compact disc player accepts compatibility with other 700 million portable or car CD players, existing compact disc players, and Super Audio Compact Disc Players.

For the mentioned three types of SACD, information reading is completed from a solitary side. For hybrid and dual discs, exterior layer is half transparent so that the interior layer will be read from the outside layer. Hence, with Super Audio Compact Discs, turning the disc over is never a requirement, which allows owners to put on labels or prints on its top side, similar to that of conventional compact discs.

With regards to SACD, Sony Company, one of the multimilli
on conglomerate corporations in the world announced their own SACD products. Even though both Philips and Sony were co-makers of compact discs that have been known to people for about twenty years already, these two huge companies are pushing Super Audio Compact Discs as successors to the customary CD's.

Facing competition against DVD-audio formats, which are based on the current CD/DVD technology, as backed by companies like Kenwood, Pioneer, and Panasonic among others, Philips and Sony have high hopes that the revolutionary approach of SACD to digital audio reproductions will garner the pocketbooks and ears of both mainstream and audiophile consumers. On its first SACD release, Sony was able to provide its consumers with the SCD-1 which was capable of only two-channel playback. But on its new manifestation, the company had added multichannel SACD for the consumers listening pleasure.

Briefly, the multichannel Super Audio Compact Disc is fully formatted with 5.1 channel audio reproduction. It is outwardly analogous to DTS and Dolby Digital in terms of taking advantage of similar speaker configurations: Center, LS, RS, L/R, and Subwoofer. But unlike DTS and Dolby Digital, multichannel SACD's sonic characteristics and digital processing are molded to music reproduction instead of sound and dialog effects as accentuated by the mentioned 5.1 channel format. In addition, besides the 5.1 channels, the multichannel SACD recordings may also be collaborated with three of four channel configurations as well. Such flexibility provides both engineer and recording artist creative options, something that is limited with the typical audio compact disc technology.

Sony is pushing SACD towards the mainstream consumers market, in line with affordable and reasonably priced home theater and audio products. Among their other products of "Dream Home Theater Systems" which incorporate SACD include DAV-S500, DAV-C700, and DAV-C900. Additionally, the company also gives importance to their audio-only consumers by offering three multichannel Super Audio Compact Disc Players namely: SCD-CE775, SCD-C222ES, and SCD-C555ES.
